2017/18 Winter Recap!
Oh... and Jena learned how to play hockey and curl! Yep, armed with some second hand skates, a new Sherwood she got for Christmas and an unparalleled desire to play every sport possible, Jena was out there stick handling and passing like a boss! She even fired off her first slap shot, making this Canadian boy pretty proud.
I had a great opportunity to teach my first ever cycling course as well! I taught a 20 hour course at the College of the Rockies and had a blast. Hopefully this is something that can continue in 2018.
As for the fat bike racing, Jena CLEANED UP this winter, winning every race she entered! This included the short track event and the long distance race at the 2nd annual Frosty's Fat Bike Series in Jasper AB, the inaugural Cross River Ripper at Nipika Mountain Resort and last but not least, the USA Fat Bike NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS! She raced smart, clean, smooth and consistent throughout the entire season.
As for me, I had a good first season on the fat bike as well. I finished up 2nd at the short track and 6th in the long distance race at Jasper. I finished 2nd at the Cross River Ripper behind local beast Jakub Sumbera.
We had a ton of fun this winter, rode some amazing trails and learned a lot about the sport of fat biking.
We'd like to thank our winter specific sponsors for helping make our first season of fat biking an incredible one: Van Dessel Bicycles for the wicked bikes, Dirt Components for the ultra nice carbon wheels, Bar Mitts for keeping our hands warm and our water unfrozen and Hyperthreads for all the warm clothes to ride in.
Now BRING ON THE DIRT!
